i think all the time about how hard it is to be a kid even in the best case scenarios. like yeah as a kid you have very few responsibilities and youre innocent etc but i think the thing is that adults (at least in the USA) largely do not consider you to be a human.

i remember when i was a kid, my parents were nice to me and supportive and so on-- i didnt have a bad childhood. but there were times where my dad would just take things from me, or interrupt me on the computer/tv, not because i had exceeded screen time or anything but just because "im the dad and im more important so i can do what i want". i remember how powerless i felt when adults would shout at me, especially if it was over something i didnt understand and/or hadnt been taught.

i remember adults laughing in my face sometimes when i was crying or upset, and i think about this when i see those 'toddler/kid freakout' tiktok videos mocking a child's reaction, even if it is for something "stupid" like they dropped their candy or whatever.

even the most well-meaning adults will often write off your pain and negative emotions as 'overreactions', and this goes triple if youre neurodivergent. i had pneumonia as a child and my doctor thought i was just being dramatic.

your input on things is largely seen as worthless. if your parents want to travel the country in a van, but you want to go to school and have friends and have your own bedroom, they'll just pack you up and take you in that van because you're the child and you're their property. i think about this when i see those 'van life' families, and i think about this as i'm reading the Wavewalker book about the girl who was forced to live on her parents' boat with little to no schooling for 10 years.

if your parents spank you and hit you, largely thats seen as their "choice" as parents, no matter how many studies tell them it traumatizes children. and youre dependent on the adults around you and if those adults suck, or if youre in a bad situation, you have very little to no ability to change that and you just have to endure.

and thats what drives me insane about desantis is that we see more and more rhetoric like "the rights of parents" and "protecting children" but these kids are being told that they do not have rights. its as if people truly believe parents deserve to know everything, even if the child doesnt feel safe telling them. people think parents deserve to control their kids' every choice and every move. but when it comes to protecting kids from gun violence and protecting gay/trans kids and especially kids of color, republicans could not give less of a shit. hell, even the grand majority of democrats barely care.

yes, i get it. parenting is unimaginably hard. the nuclear family is unsustainable especially in today's double-income-not-even-making-rent economy. the world is fucked up. sometimes kids are shitty and it might hurt you as an adult. but kids are not evil, and kids are not adults who are acting with fully developed brains and social skills and empathy and so on and its important to keep that in mind.

on the chance that anyone wants to reply with "well i hate kids :/" look. you dont have to be a parent. but at least be kind to children in your life. let the kid in the park ramble to you about skibidi toilet or fucking whatever. you do owe people kindness, especially children

the drama this time is over a fanfiction about two fictional characters, but because one of the characters is played by a teenage actor on tv, all of a sudden this makes the fanfic "literal child porn" that "sexualizes an actual minor" and i am so sick of explaining to morons on twitter that actors are not in fact the fictional characters they play.

of course, because this kind of discourse ALWAYS gets out of control and escalates out of proportion, a concerning amount of people have moved on from "writing fanfic about fictional characters means youre a pedo who gets off to the real actor" and are now arguing "every fanfic about a real child should be banned from ao3" and "why does ao3 allow child porn?"

this halloween season im going on a journey of trying to understand art the clown. (talking At Length about the movies terrifier and, to a lesser degree, all hallows eve under the cut. so obligatory Spoilers warning goes here.)

when i first saw terrifier pop up as a title on netflix, i pretty much immediately wrote it off as a generic slasher/scary clown schlock movie, and for a while it seemed like that was the general consensus. i dont think i saw any real buzz about the terrifier movies until the second one came out, and after that it seemed like i blinked and the third one was already in theaters along with tons of art the clown merch and costumes on shelves. i did a little research about the general content of the movies and audience reactions, trying my best not to spoil myself in the process, and decided it was either the sheer grotesque spectacle winning people over in a "how much can you take before you puke" kinda way or there was really something to this series that i just wasnt seeing, and either one seemed like enough to make it worth the watch.

i figured if i was gonna do this i needed to go all in, so i started with all hallows eve, the movie art the clown actually first features in before going on to get his own franchise. theres not terribly much to say about this not-prequel. the art of all hallows eve shares some broad similarities with the final version and establishes a few reoccurring motifs: the use of a tv as a framing device, arts love of shit play and gruesome mutilations as performance. other than that, this version of art comes off as a lot more immediately supernatural in nature. hes sort of operating on a plane somewhere between looney tunes and the ring, apparating out of thin air with a sign cheerfully inviting you to see the circus one moment and hammering his fists on the inside of your tv screen the next. as an introduction to the franchise-to-be i think it sets the stage pretty well, but this is still very clearly a proto-art, not yet the real deal we will come to know.

moving on to the first terrifier movie, the first thing that jumps out is naturally the return of the tv, although this time we start on arts side of the screen in a nondescript location that seems to function as a green room where he readies himself for the next act. the lone survivor of arts apparent offscreen activities being interviewed on screen declares confidently that art is dead, that she personally saw it happen, but fans of classic slashers know that means very little. art could be a ghost, or a demon of some sort, but he could also be more of a michael meyers type boogieman, both human and innately unkillable until proven otherwise, or until his movies no longer brings in the crowds.

and thats something that, especially if youve started with all hallows eve, becomes very apparent right away: terrifier is a movie about movies, taking its inspiration from slashers and gory torture-centric horror of the late 90s and early 00s, which in turn evolved from the classic slashers of 70s and 80s. both the actions of art himself and the surreal horror-trope laden world he inhabits, from the dreamy-eyed woman cradling her porcelain doll child to the mutilated victim turned crazed killer herself, inform us that we are very much watching a movie, that everything we see is not reality nor meant to imitate it, but a shade of hyperreality that exists because we are choosing to watch and engage with it.

which comes back to the character of art himself. a clown, a mime, a performance artist who himself is literally Art. "he thinks its funny because hes laughing" explains the witness, or rather, by dressing and acting like a clown he turns murder into entertainment. you could also say this is what all movie slashers with their respective masks and gimmicks do for the audience. the delivery is what determines the tone is what determines how the performance is received is what determines what the action is. and what it is, is shit and smut and death. and what it is, is art.

currently my interpretation is that terrifier is a movie in conversation with horror movies as a whole. we're currently in a cultural moment where the so-called elevated A24 horror film reigns supreme, and while theres definitely still a place for over the top guts and gore in horror cinema, but theres a lingering stigma that labels this type of film unsophisticated at best and degenerate at worst. terrifier to me is taking the stance that no matter what you personally think of it you have to recognize that even a movie like this is a form of art, and that whether by simple shock value or by its messages or by the merit of the leading mans honestly very impressive silent performance, it has earned its place in popular culture.

at least until i watch the other movies and decide i hate them. we'll see what happens! ttyl!

This goes without saying but i want to preference that i dont hate every ‘annoying’ child character. Charmy is my baby i love him okay.

Sonic x was nice visually, not top notch animating but it was fun and alil janky in a good way. My biggest fucking gripe with the show is C H R I S. That kid was so unnessecary to most of the story. It felt like he was there to just annoy the audience snd become a roadblock for sonic because hes a clingy rich kid. Usually including humans in sonic stories has always left me alittle confused at best, eggmans been here since the start so i have no issue with him ‘course. I know chris’ story. How his parents are always busy so thats why hes a clingy kid. But hes been a thron in my side the entire time i rewatched the show. Hes too clingy. He gets in the way for no goddamn reason. He gets on sonics nerves even if the show might not admit it bc sonic is a goody two shoes who cant be mad at anybody but the villains but THATS a can’o worms for another time.

Listen, i understand chris is a child who just might want attention bc his parents cant always be there. But they love him, dude, they loved him. And he felt ungrateful for the fact his parents, despite being busy, LOVED HIM. I havent watched x in abit so correct me if im wrong, DIDNT HE FUCKING RUN AWAY BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SEE SONIC OR SOMETHING? THIS KID GAVE HIS PARENTS SUCH A SCARE OVER A FUCKING HEDGEHOG! {Me personally? I love them. Biased since I am an oc but I never understand the hate on oc x canon relationships.

I watch tv shows, movies and other media without really caring for the shows pairings. Most of the time they can be toxic or over all fanmade and I almost never agree with them. Sebastian and Ciel shippers from Black Butler for example made me completely stop watching the show and engaging with the fandom since it felt like I was outlier for not wanting to see this ship. Not only is in incredibly toxic, its illegal as hell. You all are shipping a child with a grown man, have you no shame?! Or Ruby and Sam from Supernatural. The ship is toxic and Sam as a character is always made to be the butt of the joke despite him being actively traumatized. I could literally go on for hours about this stuff.

I prefer oc x canon since the ships feel more organic and more work as to be put into them. They are often better if not better written than the 'canon' or 'fanmade' ships and who doesnt love a little bit of self indulgence to ship your oc with your favorite character?

Do I believe there is a right or wrong for those who ship or dont ship certain things? Not really, everyone is entitled to feel how they feel regardless of everyone elses opinion, HOWEVER keep in mind that some will not agree with the canon or fanmade and thats okay. I feel like everyone should just stay in their own respective corners of their preference and not get pissy about someone saying they dont care for a ship bc thats bound to start arguments/disagreements.}

I think youre a talented astrologer but I dont understand why when talking about Lunar, Martian, Solar, etc, influence you and other astrologers inspired by Claire Nakti dont also mention rashis? I say this as someone who is a Chitra Libra sun and an Anuradha Scorpio Rising. I feel martian influence from both chitra and scorpio but honestly feel like more of it comes from scorpio. The Chitra in me ruled by my Libra Vishakha venus likes to paint, indulge in fashion, makeup, design, and beautify the spaces around me. Game of Thrones.. a violent book series and tv show about the intersections of politics and war… mars has a dominant presence in that show with many of the characters being eithers mars rashis or mars nakshatras. Not only is that show ultraviolent but its also extremely beautiful? The most dominant mars nakshatra in that show is Chitra and I definitely see Chitra’s influence as the architect of weapons and as a fashion designer(all the elaborate designs on the swords and axes as well as the suits and dresses and cloaks and armor suits)

Rashis are also influential but I don't know if their planetary influence applies in the same way. Aries rashi is Mars ruled and that overarching Martian theme can be felt across Ashwini, Bharani & Krittika but I don't consider any of them to be "Martian" naks. Aries rashi is Mars ruled and every nak has themes of the rashi lord present in it but it's a bit redundant to consider them "Martian" when the whole point of Vedic astrology is to allow room for more complexity than the 12 rashis or zodiac signs will allow. Nakshatras are lunar mansions for a reason?? They're individual constellations. Besides, there are no rashis for Rahu or Ketu, so what do Nodals do lol??

I will say rashi influence is imp in decoding the full complexity of a nakshatra but to give them the same importance as nak lords is a bit of stretch. Bharani has heavy Mars energy but what makes Bharani uniquely Bharani is the fact that it's a Venusian nakshatra (an outcaste one and the only Venusian nak that deals with death etc) Also I don't know since when Bharani became "known" for causing difficult childbirth, the symbol for Bharani is the vulva, the word Bharani means "to bear" and its a Venus nak known for fertility, creation etc AND it is considered by many astrologers to be one of the most auspicious naks to give birth because the themes literally all revolve around childbirth. Obviously Bharanis are just as likely as everybody else to struggle with child bearing but there is nothing which specifically points to them.

The reason why Mars naks struggle with fertility and conception is because Mars is a dry and fiery planet that is the opposite of fertile. Plants don't grow on dry land, same way in order for creation to take place its important to be energetically receptive which Mars, a masculine planet and a malefic, is not. Kim Kardashian, Chitra Sun has talked about how she almost died giving birth to her Mrigashira Sun daughter.

I think a lot of people who focus on rashis kind of miss the point. You're not able to understand the full complexity of the nakshatras. The rashi influence of Mars is literally already present in Chitra, which is a Mridu or gentle nakshatra and since it's in Libra rashi (ruled by Venus) has very prominent themes of aesthetic appreciation and beautification. Chitra's deity is literally Vishwakarma, the celestial architect also known as the ideal artist. Every nakshatra contains opposing themes. Being Mars ruled means it's also athletic, ambitious and driven. Chitra also belongs to the fire element (every nak has an element assigned to it)

everything you attribute to "Scorpio rashi" can just as easily be attributed to Chitra nakshatra. Everybody has overarching recurring themes in their chart so it's possible it's the collective influence that draws you to certain things but it's also possible to be confused about what comes from where.

I don't know why anybody would want to choose a highly simplistic 12 rashi influence overview to the complexity of 27 naks. You put a Taurus and a Libra with each other, they're Rohini and Swati respectively, what on earth do those naks have in common with each other?? One is Moon ruled, the other is Rahu ruled. Them belonging to Venus rashis does impact the themes of their individual naks but they absolutely would not be said to be similar to one another???

Everybody is free to believe whatever they want. Traditionally vedic astrology as it is practiced depends on nakshatras not rashis.

i was just talking to my dad about how i want to do more stuff with the babies in stardew valley so i decided id make a post detailing all my wishes. if you know me personally you know that my biggest dream is a sdv-esque game where relationships r the focus and the farms the second thing, so these ideas probably would fit better in a game like that. but I DONT CARE and i LOVE THE LITTLE BABIES and i WANT TO PLAY WITH THEM

i want to take my baby everywhere if its a newborn i understand keeping it in the crib all day, but i wanna carry the baby!!! even if i just hold it over my head like an item. i want to carry my baby and interact with villagers and have them go "aww cute baby!" or if my characters a boy i want clint to go "aw haha babysitting today are you?" and i want to go "NO!!!!!!!!! i want to make npcs babysit my baby i want it to be a requirement that your kid has to have someone looking after them. by default penny is like the only npc who will always say yes so its not Fucking impossible, but if i have like 8 hearts w someone i should be able to go to their house, baby in tow, and ask "hey can you look after my baby?" and theyll say yes but like it or dislike it depending on who they are. i want funny dialogue about what my kid said or if they missed me if we have low hearts. i want to force my farmhands to babysit my baby too. again i want my spouse to drop hearts with me if i go leave the baby unattended

since the 40s comic the addams family was created, there were various films and tv series made and in my opinion the best actress that played wednesday was christina ricci, i mean she just had the perfect facial expressions to make her one little miserable child and i bought it

and hear me out i was excited to hear that there would be a new version, completely focusing on wednesday i mean ive been watching all the media that was ever created of the addams family since i was a child so my expectations were high.

originally wednesday is this emotionally reserved, morbid child that loves the macabre so i fail to understand why they made her some modern 2024 angsty teen?

like i look at her and i see smn that consumed the addams family lore and then decided to change their whole personality and looks just based on the media they consumed, its just playing dress up at this point, "goth" girl meets bootleg monster high.

i mean PLEASE im begging you why cant i have ONE character that doesnt give me the try hard vibes à la: im not like other girls - non-chalant - my lore is too miserable for you to understand - youre not as deep as me. absolutely horrible..

like you cant just have the kubrik stare throughout the full show in order to make u look more manic i mean, christina ricci always looked either bored, displeased or annoyed and thats what i was expecting, it felt real. who actually f*cking walks around with the kubrik stare? no one.

and (spoiler alert) what the f*ck is up with the visions? where did they come from? after years and years of this character existing - without some supernatural powers- they thought wednesday needed the sight? this is so absurd. and even if she misteriously got these powers, do you really think she wouldnt be able to master them?

i mean what kind of garbage is that? it feels like a childrens show with teenage drama? was the target audience 10 year olds???? i mean COME ON. the whole thing was a disney-esque storyline with some sprinkles of edgyness. the whole thing was incoherent and dont even get me started on the fillers...

and please - what is this horrible cgi monster it is the goofiest thing ive ever seen

yes the show revolves around wednesday but i cant talk about the addams family without mentioning the iconic lovers morticia and gomez....and THE COMPLETE LACK OF CHEMISTRY THEY HAD

and again was the budget nonexistent or why did they do my girl morticia so dirty for the love of god smn give her proper MAKEUP

it just so incredibly disappointing to see that essence of the addams family is just gone, they were supposed to be a dark weird family with their backwards reality and all we got now is a wish version of it

this was a opportunity to make smth great and now its nothing more than a kids show with a tragic teen drama so thank you netflix for another miserarble show. supporting the complete and utter destruction of originality and creativity.

Like, Grey's Anatomy (for example) dealt with the concept of sexual assault in a good and respectful way. Burn notice dealt with a child molester by having him not succeed (they also dealt with their male main character being sexually assault by a horrible villain woman in season seven, again, by having her not succeed.) Wraithes the whole premise was, a girl survives a sexual assault and wins and isn't assaulted and becomes a creature that has to drink the blood of sexual predators, but again, no on screen assault.

Maybe that is what you mean though. Idk, apologies if that was your point. I'm sorry if I'm jumpy, but i've been told like, 1899 dealt with it senensitively and, it didn't, that child molestation scene was someone's fetish.

imma keep it real with you chief "art can never include [x] in any circumstances" is just like. such a shallow and incoherent take to have. like i dont watch a lot of stuff so ive never seen a film/show that includes a sexual assault scene period, but ive read plenty of stuff, both published and fic, with explicit rape scenes that serve a very coherent artistic purpose, and i dont see what's different about the medium of film that somehow makes sexual assault inherently pointless. what matters is the execution. you can have art that deals with offscreen sexual assault poorly or it can deal with it well. similarly, you can have art that deals with explicit sexual assault poorly or it can deal with it well. the problem isn't The Fact of Its Depiction. its obviously ok for you to have your own personal preferences of what you, personally, are comfortable with watching. but if you go around saying "a show can never have a well done and necessary sexual assault scene" you're gonna look like a real dumbass when you find someone who isn't like me and actually watches TV enough to have a counterexample
